Hamilton - Halgrim Hollo, 83, formerly of Fairfield, passed away at Marcus Daly Hospital in Hamilton, July 18th, surrounded by family.
He was born July 31, 1931 in Newfolden, Minnesota to Jorgen and Matilda Hollo, who immigrated from Norway. Childhood days were spent in the Fairfield area working on the family homestead. He graduated in 1950 in Fairfield. Though heavily recruited by colleges to play basketball, Halgrim chose to play for the Montana State Bobcats where he excelled and was well known for his "hook" shot and rebounding skills. His hard work, dedication, and hustle earned him great respect, which also lead to his induction into the 2014 Bobcat Basketball Hall of Fame. Halgrim served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War. Halgrim's careers over the years included teaching/coaching (Whitehall, Simms, and Livingston), house construction (Livingston and Kalispell), and owned and operated his own fishing boat named "Yashur" in Homer Alaska. Settling back in Fairfield to begin retirement, he spent his time following his beloved Bobcats in all sports, picking huckleberries, and pursuing his life-long passion for hunting and fishing.
Halgrim was preceded in death by parents, Jorgen and Matilda Hollo; sisters, Marie and Elsie May; two children, Teena Conmy and Hans Hollo.
He is survived by two sons, Hal and Kirk Hollo; three daughters, Gail Shepard, Bobbi Pruttis, Kelsey Morris; siblings, Ingaborg, Karen, Edith, Janette, Edward, and Nels; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
In celebration of his life, interment services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 12, 2015 St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Fairfield and a Memorial will be held in Choteau, MT at the New Life Community Church on September 12, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.
