In Memory of Helen Billia
Helen Billia of Hamilton, MT died peacefully in her sleep on October 19, 2012 while surrounded by her loving family in her final hours.
Helen was an extraordinary woman who loved life to the utmost. She had a personality that would light up a room upon her entrance.
Helen was the fourth in line of seven children all of who predeceased her. She was born in Charleston, SC and was the daughter of James Edward and Emma Julia Stipes. She was married three times and out lived all of her husbands - the first Wellington F. "Dud" Roemer, father of her only two children, Linda Lee Mortemore and Wellington F. "Tod" Roemer. Her second marriage was to Carl H. Miley, a WWII Hero and the third to Daro Billia of Italian Descent, but born in America and was often rumored to be a Count".
She had several exciting careers, one as a society columnist for the Miami Herald for a number of years. Prior to that time, she worked for the chairman of the board and founder of Alcoa, Arthur Vining Davis and later worked as administrative assistant to Willard "Mac" MacKenzie of Boston, the owner of the Bahamian Club in Nassau.
She was retired when she married Dario and they divided their time between Burillo, Italy in a family villa and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
She was a very proud member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and was most pleased to remain active almost until the end. She talked about her DAR relationship often and her many friends that she had made both in Ft. Lauderdale and Western Montana.
Helen is survived by her son, Tod (Joanie) of Conner, MT. Her daughter, Linda Lee Mortemore (Gary), passed away on Christmas Eve 2012 after a three and a half year battle with cancer.
The family would like to thank the great staff at the Remington and also the staff at the Marcus Daly Hospice in Hamilton, MT who were wonderful to her until the end.
