Helen Glyde Maus, 94, of Hamilton passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

Helen, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born on March 10, 1932, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Herbert and Glyde Morton. Her early years were spent in Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, and Kansas before her family settled in Glasgow, Montana, in 1940. She graduated from Glasgow High School in 1950 and went on to attend the University of Montana, where she was honored as Homecoming Queen in 1950. She earned her degree in 1954.

While attending the University of Montana, Helen met Harold Maus, whom she married in 1955.

Together they lived in Butte and Billings before making their home in Hamilton, Montana. In 1974, Helen began her teaching career at Daly Elementary School. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education in 1975 and her Administration Certification in 1978. Helen dedicated over two decades to teaching third and fourth grades at Daly Elementary until her retirement in 1995.

Helen was deeply devoted to her family, her church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid reader who enjoyed playing bridge and bingo, and she found great joy in needlework and painting ceramics.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; her sister, Anna Vee Brandborg; and her brother, Max Morton.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, John Maus (Susy) of Centennial, Colorado; her children, Sterling Maus (Kellie) of Hamilton, Shawn Maus (Jody) of Florence, and Sharon Schell (Matt) of Athol, Idaho; her grandchildren, Jenna (Everett) Robinson, Brian (Jourdan) Maus, Kaila Maus, Beau Maus, Jessica (Isaiah) Higbee, Mark Schell, Luke Schell, and Sabrina Schell; her great-grandchildren, Ryder and Mila Robinson; and ten nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Bitterroot Health-Hospice, Daly-Leach Chapel, and the staff at The Remington At Sapphire Lutheran Home for their devotion, kindness, and loving care.

In accordance with Helen’s wishes, no formal service will be held at this time. A private family memorial will take place at a later date.
