Hamilton - Herman Robert (Bob) Popenhagen 85, of Hamilton died January 20th, 2013 at home in Hamilton.
Bob was born June 13, 1927, in St. Edwards, Nebraska, son of Herman and Christina Popenhagen. Bob and Esther moved to Hamilton in 1987. They were members of the Faith Lutheran Church, where Bob served as a member of the Church Board for many years. They enjoyed socializing, dancing at the Golden Agers, playing Pinnacle and visiting with friends. Bob served in the Navy during World War Two, where he was stationed in Guam. Before Bob and Esther moved to Hamilton, they lived in Madison, South Dakota. Bob worked as a Hog Buyer for John Morrel for 33 years.
Bob was very active in the Elks Club, where he became Exalted Ruler.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Esther, son Russ, brothers, Clarence and Orville and a sister Myrtle. Bob is survived by children, Joan, (James) Perry, Janet (Don) Haeker, Susan Findly, Barb (Ron) Hansen, Patti (Craig) Haas, Amy Popenhagen, Rick Popenhagen, Gary, (Mary) Harwood, Connie (Rick) Peterson, Roger ( Jody) Harwood, Jeff ( Barb) Harwood, Joy (Carl) Naldrett; 37 combined grandchildren, 49 great- grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild will be greatly missed.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Faith Lutheran Church or the Golden Agers.
