Jack Nichol

May 18, 1944 — May 31, 2013

Jack Nichol, 69, of Hamilton, MT, passed away peacefully under God's mercy in his home with his wife of 47 years and three sons by his side on May 31, 2013, of complications from mesothelioma - a cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.

Jack was born in Los Angeles, CA. He grew up, attended school, worked, and discovered his lifelong loves in the Southern California area - the most influential love being his wife, Ellen, whom he met when she was 14, married when she was 17, and loved for the next 47 years. Jack also enjoyed baseball, ice hockey, cars and all things mechanical.

Jack was a man whose commitment never wavered. His love of baseball began as a boy and he coached and played right up until his diagnosis. He was a charter member of the LA Kings Court fan club and he rooted for them during 44 years of failure until they amazingly won the Stanley Cup in 2012. He even attended Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals during his illness: a 4-0 Kings' victory. He committed himself to provide for his family; he demonstrated that by doing without - so his family could have. He sent his three boys to private school, had a ball attending all of their events, and maintained and improved his home with his own hands. He started his professional career as an elevator mechanic at the age of 17 with the Oliver and Williams elevator company. He worked for the next 41 years with the same company until his retirement to Montana in 2003.

He filled his time in retirement by taking care of and improving his little piece of Heaven on Skalkaho Rd. He took great pride in his well-manicured pasture and immaculate yard. Retirement in Montana also allowed him the time and space to restore his '69 Corvette.

Jack is survived by his wife, three sons, five grandchildren, one sister, and one brother.

Funeral services will be held 10AM Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Christ's Bible Church, corner of Fifth and Madison.
