James "Jim" Edward Hurst, 71 of Darby passed Saturday, January 15, 2011 at home.
He was born March 22, 1939 at home in Fruita, Colorado the son of the late Joseph Clinton and Cornelia Loretta Messmaker Hurst.
He attended Fruita schools in Fruita, CO graduating in 1957. He entered the U.S. Navy upon graduation and honorably served on the USS Lexington as a second class Electronics Mate until 1961. Later he moved to California where he worked for Fairchild SemiConductor, Camera and Instrument manufacturing and developing diodes for cameras sent with the first man on the moon. Here he met and his wife of 47 years, Marcella Vaughn. Later in life he completed an associate's degree at Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC. He and his wife settled in Montana in 1993.
James was preceded in death by his parents, brothers J.C. and Donald Hurst and sisters, Frances Harrington and Patricia Wilson Frey.
Surviving include his wife Marcella of Darby, MT; son, Timothy Hurst of Taylors, SC; daughters, Kimberly Schmal of Greer, SC and Danielle Fridley of Conner, MT; sister, Mary Jo Cady; brother Floyd "Smokey" Hurst of Midland, TX; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT.
