CORVALLIS - James Alfred "Jim" Patterson, 80, passed away of natural causes at his home in Corvallis on Sunday, Nov. 23. He was born Dec. 24, 1933 in Florence, MT, the son of A.J. and Dora Patterson.
Jim lived and worked in the Bitterroot Valley virtually all his life. He graduated from Hamilton High School before serving in the US Army in the Korean War. He owned and operated a successful excavating business in the valley for over 40 years.
Jim had an avid interest in prospecting for gold and a passion for flying. He built two experimental class airplanes he flew every chance he could.
He was an active member of Gold Prospectors Assoc. of America and Experimental Aircraft Assoc. Chapter 517.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, A.J. and Dora Patterson; his daughter, Kathrine Patterson; and son, Robert Patterson. He is survived by his wife, Lavona Harr of Corvallis; two sons, Ted and his wife Julie of Missoula, and Russ of Hamilton. Jim is also survived by Judy Patterson, the mother of his children.
The family suggests memorials be made to Valley Veteran Services Center, 802 W. Main, Hamilton.
