John Patrick Potter

HAMILTON - John Patrick Potter, 68 of Hamilton passed away peacefully Thursday, September 22, 2011 surrounded by his family at St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula, Montana. He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Mary Louise (Kneib) Potter and his son Patrick James Potter.

John was born on November 17, 1942 in Leavenworth, Kansas. His father was in the Air Force so he was educated all over the United States. In Kansas City, Missouri he met and married the love of his life, Janet on July 9, 1970. They lived in Kansas City, Missouri, Colorado Springs, Colorado and settled in Hamilton, Montana in 1978. John worked as an Auto Mechanic and a Contractor and was a member of the Ravalli County Off-Road User Association and the Bitterroot Ridge Runners.

John is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janet Potter, sons Thomas Rogers (Vera) of Albuquerque, NM, Dennis Potter (Sandy) of Colorado Springs, CO and daughter Barbara Casamento (Chris) of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren: Jenny Park (Jeff), Connie Peterson (Brian), Kate Tomasik (John), Dr. Laura Schwartz (Sergio), ET2 Sean Rogers, USS Iwo-Jima, Sgt. Marisa Barnes, Shelly Robertson (Clint) and Carrie Price (Mike); great grandchildren: Jenny Park, Jackie Park, Lena Park, Aiden Peterson, Declan Peterson, Piper Tomasik, Noah Schwartz, Braden Barnes, Rileigh Robertson, Mason Price and Monroe Price; a brother, Richard Potter; nephews Chris Potter and Danny Potter and many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Private services were held on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the home.

John was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who was dearly loved and will be missed for the rest of our lives. His loss will also be felt by the many friends in Hamilton who loved and respected him. The family would like to thank those friends for their love and support in our time of mourning.
