Joyce Rathbun Spadone
Joyce Spadone, 82, of Hamilton passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at home in her sleep. She was born August 13, 1929 in Hartford, CT the daughter of Charles and Beatrice Rathbun.
Joyce was raised in Hartford, CT, and spent her summers by the seashore. She graduated Laselle Junior College and Boston University with a degree in Fine Arts. She met Don Spadone on a blind date and began a deep and endless love that lasted over 61 years. They married on June 9, 1951 and moved to Germany where Don was stationed with the US Army. They returned to the US and Don entered Cornell Law School. Following Don's graduation they moved to Rochester, New York where he started his law career.
Joyce's true passion was her family. Don and Joyce had four children. In 1985, Don and Joyce retired to Hamilton, MT. They bought Don's dream home nestled under the Bitterroot Mountains.
Joyce was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She worked tirelessly for her family. Joyce raised four independent children. Joyce was a great cook and baker. Her cookies were famous near and wide. She enjoyed quilting, ceramics, canning, and entertaining.
Most of all, Joyce loved Don. She would have followed him anywhere. In the end, roles reversed, and Don cared for Joyce during her long illness. Joyce died in her sleep next to her lifelong companion. Joyce is survived by her husband, four children, nine grandchildren and her sister.
