June LaHayne Harman, age 92, residing in Hamilton, Montana passed away of natural causes, Thursday, September 15, 2011.
She was born in South Bend, Indiana July 31st, 1919 to Elmer and Vera LaHayne. She was raised in Tampa, Florida, graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1937, she had the honor of being crowned "Miss Hillsboro High." She joined the Navy Waves, where she met her husband, Lewis D. Harman; they were married June 11, 1945.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years and their two daughters, LaRee Johnson and Cheryl Dittbrender.
June traveled extensively with her husband who was a Naval Officer and pilot, as they were stationed from Brunswick, Maine to the Marshall Islands, then to Bettles, Alaska above the Arctic Circle, also living at Fort Greeley and Anchorage, Alaska. Following retirement June and her husband settled in Missoula, Mt. They traveled to China, Russia, Nova Scotia, Europe and many destinations in the US.
June's interests were varied from button collecting, to bowling, crocheting, cooking, fishing and hunting, music and dance, and gardening. She was an excellent homemaker, mother, wife and friend to everyone she met, many kept a correspondence going for 50 years.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis D. Harman; her two daughters, LaRee Johnson and her husband Andrew E. Cier of Astoria, Oregon, and Cheryl Dittbrender and her husband Art Dittbrender of Asheville, NC; her four Grandchildren: Jeff Ray, Rhett Harman and his wife Stefanie, David Dittbrender and Mary Dittbrender; and her eight Great Grandchildren, Olivia, Rush, Sofia, Madison, Maverick, Naomi Joy, Kristen and Jamie; and many friends including Bob and Maggie Manning of Corvallis. She is also survived by her sister Rolene Cain and her husband Paul Cain of Pennington Gap, VA.
She requested no service; any memorials should be made as a donation in her name to the Alzheimer's Association or the local Human Society. She was a sweet soul who touched many lives with love.
