Katherine Marie (Hupfer) Garrod

Katherine (Kathy) Marie Hupfer Garrod was born on October 25, 1928, to Simon and Minnie Hupfer in Sunburst, Montana.

In 1936, the Hupfers bought a ranch in Victor, Montana. She and her sister, Barbara Hupfer Stevens, were raised there. Kathy graduated in 1946. On December 6, 1946, she married Donald Garrod at her parents’ house in Victor. They had two children, Dennis Kay and Carolyn Kay. Don and Kathy celebrated their 50th anniversary in August 1996 at a jam session at the Wilderness Gateway Campground, along with two other couples, all renewing their vows. They were married for 61 years. She loved playing cards and dancing. Don and Kathy were members of the Golden Age Club in Hamilton.

She was preceded in death by Don in 2008 and their son Dennis in 1970, her parents Simon and Minnie, sister Barbara and her husband Roger Stevens, cousins Francis and Anne Trenker, and her very dear friend and companion for the last few years, Bob Olson.

Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn; her grandsons, Troy (Kat) Mason, Tavis Mason, Trent (Samantha) Mason, and Tylan Mason; great-grandchildren, (Troy) Zach, Mathew, Tad, and Josie; (Tavis) Jesse (Kelsey) and Dani; (Trent) Freya Mason; great-great-grandchildren, Charlotte Mason, Ember Mason, and Marelle Mason, along with several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Kathy’s dear cousins from Canada, Dave and Mary Anne (Trenker) Desmeules, and Leo and Marilyn Trenker for all of their support.
