Kenneth C. Scovill

Kenneth C. Scovill, 93, of Hamilton passed away Monday, Oct 3, 2011 at the family home. He was born August 12, 1918 in Columbus, MT, the youngest son of Claude and Louise Scovill.

Ken was raised and remained in Columbus for 42 years. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1936, worked at the Scovill car dealership and managed the Creameries in Big Timber and Absarokee with his brother Hank. He went into business for himself, owning Scovill Hardware in Columbus for many years. On March 6,1943 he married Thelma Bartlett in Harlowtown, MT. Ken was active in the Columbus Volunteer Fire Dept, The Masons and the local 20/40 Club. He loved fishing and hunting in his familiar haunts.

The family moved to Whitefish, MT in 1960 where Ken repaired appliances and televisions for Nelson Hardware, later running the warehouse and repairing pumps, water heaters and plumbing fixtures for Ibsen Plumbing. He finished out his working career at the State of Montana Liquor store in Whitefish. Ken and Thelma loved their home on Whitefish Lake, but retired in 1986 and moved to Somers, MT where they resided until 2004 when they were persuaded to move to Hamilton to be closer to family.

Ken loved working with his hands and spent his favorite times tinkering in his shop or garage. He was blessed with extreme patience and could fix almost anything with next to nothing to work with. Everyone looked forward to Ken coming to visit as he would always take care of the outstanding 'honey-do' lists and fix whatever was broken. Family came first and he always looked forward to visits from friends and family. Ken especially had a soft spot for the little ones as they came along and gently encouraged all to 'come more often and don't stay quite so long'.

Ken is survived by his wife Thelma of Sapphire Lutheran Home in Hamilton, three children, Lynda (Fred) Skinner of Hamilton, Beverly Garrick of Shelton, WA and Ken Scovill of Hamilton; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct 15th at 1 pm at the family plot in the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus, MT.
