Larry Lockhart

July 15, 1940 — September 3, 2013

Lawrence (Larry) Everett Lockhart age 73, of Missoula, MT, was born July 15, 1940 in Santa Rosa, California to Everett Lorance and Ethel Lucy Brooks Lockhart. He was the fourth of eight children.
- His early childhood was spent swimming in the Trinity River near Weaverville, CA at Lewiston, where the family lived, hunting Black tail Deer, catching salmon and following hounds after Raccoon. The family moved to Kamiah, Idaho to the Glenwood area before Larry's senior year in high school. He helped his dad with an outfitting business and farmed. He played baseball and football and graduated with the Kamiah class of 1958.
- Larry married Dixie Lynn of Clearwater, Idaho in October of 1960. They moved to Oregon when his mother was killed by a drunk driver, and while there he obtained his pilot's license. From there he joined the Army and went through several aviation mechanics schools and became a crew chief on the Army transport Caribou while stationed in Oklahoma, Alabama and Georgia.
- When he was discharged from the Army they returned to Oregon and then to Kirkland, WA where Larry was a supervisor at Boeing Aircraft Co. in Renton, WA. He also did some scuba diving. Their four children were born while they lived in Kirkland; Rocky, November 1966. Cindy, June 1968. Brian, September 1970 and Stacy, September 1972. Always the adventurer, he became interested in riding, racing and fixing motorcycles.
- In 1974 they moved to Corvallis, Montana in the beautiful Bitter Root Valley where he worked as a welder, then for Bitter Root Disposal and eventually went in to Real Estate. He helped coach Pee Wee and Little League baseball and wrestling at the Corvallis school. He continued his love of hunting big game and riding motorcycles. He got interested in the 1800s era of the Mountain Man and along with Dixie and friends Doug and Lee Daughenbaugh and David Fowler built rifles, knives and leather clothing and they all took a two week survival trip through the Bitter Root Mountain Range into Idaho. He was also a long time member of the Boots and Calico Square Dance club of Hamilton, MT.
- After his children were grown and gone their separate ways, Larry's health began to fail with Parkinson's disease. He and Dixie divorced in 1992 and Larry moved to Oregon to be near his sisters and their families. He eventually returned to the Bitter Root Valley and the mountains that he loved so that he could be near his youngest son Stacy and his family as well as longtime friends.
- He celebrated his 70th birthday along with family and friends with a big party in Missoula in July of 2010. His last years were spent in a care center in Missoula. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Tom and Ernie. He is survived by his four children. Rocky (Sheryl) of Rockport, TX., Cindy of Wimberly, TX, Brian (Margaret) of Yelm, WA, Stacy (Julia) of Missoula, MT. Also siblings; Loretta (Grant) Brown of Idleyld, OR, Janet Azbill of Lewiston, ID, Richard (Louise) Lockhart of Corvallis, MT., Margie (Gene) Shaffer of Central Point, Oregon, Nikki (Lanny) McBride, of Winston, Oregon.
- A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at 2pm at the Corvallis Community Church. A potluck reception will follow the service at the Corvallis Community Center.
