Leroy Mccrossin

September 18, 1929 — September 18, 2015

LeRoy McCrossin passed away on his 86th birthday, September 18, 2015. He went to heaven peacefully at home, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born September, 18, 1929 in Hamilton, Montana. After graduating from high school and attending Western Montana University, he joined the Navy, after which he moved to Butte where he worked at Safeway for 10 years. When his first wife Patsy passed away, leaving him with 7 small children, he returned to Hamilton and continued working for Safeway. In 1966, he married Maggie Bolin Nelson, a widow with 3 small children. They immediately adopted each other's children and became a large, often rambunctious family of 12. They lived in Charlos Heights and became active in the Charlos Heights Community church. He bought Nobles clothing in 1966, which he sold 13 years later. After 37 years of working at Mildenberger Motors, he retired in November, 2014. His health quickly declined due to heart failure.

LeRoy led a life jam packed with action and excitement but was mainly a devoted family man. He loved people and had an outrageous saying in any situation. He frequently introduced himself as LeRoy Brown and many people were surprised upon discovering that wasn't his real name. He and Maggie went on yearly golfing vacations with their friends, calling themselves the International Roadrunners. The first few times, they convinced unsuspecting relatives to stay with the kids. After returning from a fun filled vacation, they were always met with the same comment, "I'll never do that again."

LeRoy often referred to himself as "living on the edge". After running away from home at age 14 to work in Seattle (he left a note in his mother's dresser drawer that she didn't find for three days) he continued to live his life the way he wanted. Owning Nobles began his lifelong obsession with being well dressed and shopping. He loved golfing, hunting, fishing and skiing, but most of all his family and friends. He and Maggie were mainstays of the Charlos Heights Community Church, which was a most important part of their lives.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, 5 brothers, 3 children, Ricky, Charlene and Lee Ann and one grandson. He is survived by Maggie, his wife of 49 years, sons Gary McCrossin and Joe McCrossin of Hamilton and Daniel McCrossin of Missoula. Daughters Karen Kidd (Tim) of Darby, Becky Graham (Jim) of Idaho Falls, Arlene Selle (Buzz) of Denver and Suzie Peterson of Billings. He also leaves 20 grand children, 16 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
