HAMILTON - Louis D. Lippert passed away Monday, June 20, 2011 at his home at the age of 80. He was born April 11, 1931 in Jamestown, North Dakota.
Lou retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad as Manager of Stations in July 1986, headquartered in Billings, MT. He was a former employee of the Northern Pacific RR prior to merger. After retirement, he was employed as Vice President of the Washington Central Railroad until a major heart attack forced him to give up railroading for good.
Lou was a Life Member of the Hamilton, MT Elks Lodge, a member of the American Legion Post #4 in Billings, a former Kiwanian in Billings and Tacoma, WA, a former Supervisory Board member of the Salvation Army in Billings, and a former Vice Pres of the Nat'l Defense Transportation Assn in Tacoma. He was also a former President of the Bitterroot Cross Country Ski Club and was quite active in its activities and functions.
Mr. Lippert was a member of the U S Army from May of 1948 to July of 1952. He was a Military Policeman on Okinawa for a year and one half, leaving there on the breakout of the Korean War. He spent a short time in the states and then was transferred to France to serve as a member of General Eisenhower's SHAPE headquarters for the remainder of his military career.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Fannie Lippert of Jamestown, ND and his brother Gordon of Victor, MT. Lou is survived by his daughter, Lou Anne Lippert of Cheney, WA; brother, William John Lippert of Everett, WA; sister, Marlene Morehouse of Jamestown, ND; sister-in-law, Mary Lippert of Victor, MT; nephew, Randy Lippert of Stevensville, MT; great-niece, Daisy Lippert of Stevensville, MT; great-nephew Simeon Lippert of Deer Lodge, MT; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
