HAMILTON - Lucile D. Farrell, 104, of Hamilton passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the Marcus Daly Hospice and Palliative Care Center. She was born June 21, 1908 in Twin Bridges, MT the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hub and Edna Counter.
Lucile received her education in the Twin Bridges schools and later was employed at the Montana State Orphans Home. In 1931, Lucile married James H. "Hank" Farrell in Butte and they moved to the West Coast where Hank was employed by Greyhound Bus Lines. Their next thirty years was spent in four western states; California, Oregon, Nevada and Utah. On return they moved to Hamilton.
Lucile was a member of the Christian Church - Disciples of Christ both in Utah and Montana and was active in both churches. She served as an elder, she taught Sunday School, served as President of the CWF as well as other activities of the church. While in Utah, Lucile worked with Church Women United. It was in Utah that she was chosen "Woman of the Year" for Utah and Idaho Christian Churches.
Lucile was preceded in death by her husband Hank in 1989; her son, Leonard W. "Wally" Farrell; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard Counter and wife Betty and Max W. Counter and wife Ruth; 2 half-brothers, Lester and Floyd Caraway; and her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Loren Wheeler. She is survived by her son, James C. "Casey" Farrell of Shelby; her cousin, Tom Hillier of Missoula; 3 nephews, Bob Counter of Butte, Mike Counter of Boron, CA, and George Wheeler of Dillon; her niece, Judy Davidson of Seattle; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date. The family would like to express a special thanks to Lucile's caregivers, the Marcus Daly Hospice and to Aspen Hospice.
