Lucille Marie Stilson Mckinney

BOZEMAN - Lucille Marie Stilson McKinney peacefully passed away at her home in Bozeman, MT, on Sunday, July 31, 2016. Lucille was diagnosed 48 years ago with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Due to damage caused by radiation treatments, she passed away all too soon at the age of 69.

Lucille was born on November 18, 1946, to Keith and Marie Stilson in Jackson Hole, WY.

Lucille spent her childhood wrangling horses and cooking for hunters in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, as Keith and Marie owned and operated one of the oldest outfitting businesses in Wyoming. After graduating from Jackson-Wilson High School in 1965, Lucille attended beauty school in Idaho Falls, ID, and started working for Clara Bush at the Gai Mode in Jackson. She later became part owner of Door Way to Beauty in Jackson until selling in 1995.

In 1980, she married Daniel “Bear” McKinney of Las Cruces, NM, and in 1986, the couple welcomed their son, Daniel Keith McKinney, to the family. In 1995, Lucille relocated with her family to Hamilton, MT, where they lived on a small ranch near Keith and Marie. She owned a daycare and later worked in a nursing home as a beautician.

After retiring, the McKinney's relocated to Bozeman in 2007 where she and Bear spent a majority of their time traveling the country, visiting family and friends, and catching a baseball game or two.

On June 9, she welcomed her new daughter-in-law, Lisa, to the McKinney family.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Bear McKinney of Bozeman; son Dan and wife Lisa McKinney of Alameda, CA; many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Keith (1997) and Marie (2005) Stilson.

A visitation will be held Monday, August 8, at The Daly-Leach Community Room from 4pm to 7pm. A service to celebrate her life will be held in Jackson, WY, with private family urn placement at a later date.
