Luther Jesse "L J" James
US Army Corporal Luther Jesse James will be laid to rest at 3pm Saturday September 15, 2012 at the Hamilton Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton, Montana with full Military Honors. Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.
L J was born March 24, 1929 in Kansas to the late Jesse Henry James and Esther Mae Matthews. He enlisted into the US Army on October 9, 1949. Cpl James was a member of the Battery B, 57th Field Artillery Battalion and 7th Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on December 2, 1950. It was later reported that Cpl James died while captured by enemy forces from starvation and lack of medical care while a Prisoner of War in North Korea.
Cpl James was awarded the Purple Heart, POW medal, Korean Service Medal, Republic of Korea War Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal.
L J is survived by his sisters Lucille (James) Walker, Victor, Montana; Ollie Oldham, Texas and brother W.D. (Frances) Matthews, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews throughout Montana, Washington, Oregon, Texas and Nevada.
L J you will never again be without family by your side. You are no longer an unknown soldier in an unmarked grave in a foreign country. You are finally home.
