HAMILTON - Lynn McDonald Lovitt, 77, of Hamilton passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Marcus Daly Hospice and Palliative Care Center from cancer. He was born October 6, 1936 in Missoula the son of the late Ferl D. and Leila (Bloomquist) Lovitt.
Lynn was raised in East Missoula and attended Missoula County High School. Lynn joined the U.S. Navy on October 27, 1954 and served until he retired on September 30, 1975. During his service in the Navy he worked as a Gunner's Mate, U.S. Navy Investigator and as a Navy recruiter until he retired.
Lynn received the following awards and commendations: Good Conduct Medals (4), National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation for Korean Service. While in the Navy he lived in various states and Taipei, Taiwan. After his retirement, Lynn worked for Lucky Stores Warehouse in California. He also attended Cerritos College and got an AA Degree in Sales and Marketing, and Business Management.
In 1980, Lynn moved his family to Montana to be near his aging parents. He worked cleaning 3 bars and the Eagles Lodge. Later he worked as a grill cook at the Signal for several years. His last job he loved most of all, Lynn was the Range Marshall at the Hamilton Golf Club and later worked in the Pro Shop.
Lynn met the love of his life, Pauline Ambrose, in Honolulu, HI and after only 45 days they got married on July 31, 1963. He enjoyed playing golf and loved fishing and hunting. Lynn also liked gambling and going to Las Vegas and Reno, NV. He enjoyed people and would do anything to help his friends or strangers. Lynn was a member of the Teamsters, the Eagles Lodge and Hamilton Golf Club. He also coached little league baseball, Pop Warner football and assisted in various sports.
Lynn is survived by his wife, Pauline, of Hamilton; his son, Patrick Lovitt and wife Jenny (Lear); 3 grandchildren, Kimberly, James and Keely; 1 sister, Beda (Lovitt) Melby; and 2 nieces.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Lynn's name to the Bitterroot Humane Association, Marcus Daly Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice.
