MARGARET JEAN HERNDON

CORVALLIS - Marg was born on October 20, 1944, in Twin Falls, ID to Lew and Syble Gohmes.  Her first home was at the San Jaciento Ranch, headquarters of the vast Utah Construction Ranch where her father was cattle foreman.  The family lived on various ranches in Nevada and Idaho before settling in Ely, NV where Marg attended grade school.

Marg went to junior and high school in Salmon, ID after the family purchased in 1957 the old Eldridge/Ravndal ranch on the North Fork of the Salmon River.  She spent many hours exploring the Hughes Creek drainage on her beloved Arab mare, Ali.  Marg married Bang Schofield of Salmon and they moved to Pocatello where their son, Lew, was born.

After divorcing, Marg moved Lew to Las Vegas and married Mike Herndon, also of Salmon, ID.  The couple’s twin daughters were born in Las Vegas and after divorcing Mike, Marg remained in Las Vegas for nearly 32 years, working at the Desert Research Institute, Nevada System of Higher Education.  She graduated with honors from UNLV and was very proud when her granddaughter, Shelby, also graduated from UNLV 30 years later.

Marg retired in 2003 as Business Manager/Research Administrator and moved to Corvallis, MT.  This was where Marg was the happiest -gazing at the Bitterroot Mountains, taking care of her five acres, socializing and working with her good friends of the Bitterroot Back Country Horsemen, loving her children and grandchildren during their visits, and sharing life with her Carly Dog.

Marg peacefully passed away on November 19, 2016 .  She is survived by her children, son, Lew Schofield of Henderson, NV; daughters, Jody (Michel) Khouri of Chapel Hill, NC, and Jenny Herndon (Marco Weinberg) of Encinitas, CA; grandchildren, Shelby, Scott, and Sean Schofield, Lorelei Glavin, Raquel and Audrey Khouri; sister-in-laws, Deb (Jim) Riggan of Salmon and Lynda (Matt) Carey of Pullman, WA.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Daly-Leach Chapel with a reception following in the funeral home’s community room.  Private family interment will take place at the Corvallis Cemetery.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.
