Margaret Evangeline Madsen Krowen was born June 30,1925 to Christ and Jensena (Sena) Rasmussen Madsen in Daneville Township, Divide County, North Dakota. She attended Daneville Elementary School and graduated from Westby High School as Salutatorian of her class of 1943. She was baptized and confirmed at Daneville Lutheran Church.
She met Bennett Krowen when she worked at a café in Westby in July 1941 and they were married at Emmaus Lutheran Church, Rural Westby June 30, 1943. After they were married, she transferred to Lone Tree Church, which later merged with Pleasant Valley to become Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Our Saviors later joined Immanuel Lutheran Church of Westby where she was still a member and also a member of the women of the ELCW. Margaret was a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School superintendent, held offices in the country Ladies Aid, sang with different groups, duets, and solos for church, weddings, anniversaries and funerals. Margaret held the office of Clerk of Ueland District 42 for several years.
Margaret was a homemaker, baked bread, buns, cinnamon rolls, Danish Kringle and other baking and cooking even after she moved to town. Her hobbies were embroidering, crocheting, reading and caring for her house plants (especially African Violets). She was also busy helping Bennett with the farming, cattle and did all the bookkeeping for the farm. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson, Cody Johnson, born on her 96th birthday.
Margaret moved to Sheridan Arms Apts. in Plentywood December 13, 2003 after Bennett entered Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home December 8, 2003. Bennett passed away June 25, 2007 at the Nursing Home.
She then moved to Lacasa Personal Care in Plentywood, MT, on January 20, 2011 because of her failing eyesight. Then she moved to Sapphire Lutheran Home in Hamilton, Montana on August 25, 2016.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Diane and husband Larry Johnson of Stevensville MT; their son, Donald, wife, Karen and their children Megan and Quinn all of Anchorage, AK. Son, Bruce Johnson, wife, Nancy and their four sons, Vincent, Bennett, August and Oscar of Ashland TN.
Duane Krowen, his wife, Maxine, daughter Terri, her daughter Taylor of Victor, Montana; Jaime, her husband Russell Zakour and their children, Parker and Addison of Klamath Falls, and Jaclyn Krowen of Portland, Oregon.
Connie and husband, Chris Wolverton, daughter, Sharnael and Brian Sehon their daughters and son-in-law, Shaen and Austin Johnson and great-great grandson Cody, Soren and Sharnael Shon Wolverton, Ava and Adam Sehon all of Denham Springs, LA. Daughter Karmen Wolverton and her daughter Isabelle of Denham Springs, LA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennett Krowen of almost 64 years, parents Christ and Jensena Madsen, brother Harold and Burnie Madsen & their son, Charles Madsen; Raymond and Elna Johnson and their son Richard and Faye Johnson, and Clifford Johnson. Rufus and Alice Wittmayer and their sons-in-law Terry Brown and David Pierce, and sons, Lovell and Irving and his wife, daughter-in-law Michelle Wittmayer, Milo & Louise Nordhagen and their son, Arnie, Lydia Madsen and Samuel Knud Madsen who died before he was a year old.
Margaret wished for special thanks for all the love and care she received from everyone in Plentywood and Hamilton.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 15, 2024 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Westby, MT. Interment will follow at Lone Tree Cemetery in Westby.
