Margaret H. “Peggy” Haas, 90 of Hamilton passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Marcus Daly Hospice and Palliative Care Center. She was born December 18, 1926 in Darby, Montana the daughter of Thomas and Hazel Powe.
Peggy with her family moved to the Skalkaho Area in 1936. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1945. After graduation, she and her best friend Hazel Clarke went to Seattle and worked for the government as Rosie the Riveter for 3 months, until she attended college at the University in Missoula. In 1946, she met her future husband Lawrence C. Haas at a dance. They were married February 7, 1947 in Missoula. Lawrence and Peggy traveled throughout Montana with various road contractors, where Lawrence did road and bridge construction until 1956. They then moved to Hamilton to raise their family of 3 children, Kathy, Larry and Connie. She was a stay at home mom and dinner was on the table by 5 every night. After Lawrence retired from the Ravalli County Road Dept. in 1986 they traveled to all 50 states and to Australia, New Zealand and most recently to Ireland in 2015.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Lawrence of 70 years in Hamilton; children, Kathy (Lawrence) Carpenter of Grantsdale, MT., Larry (Cindy) Haas of Yakima, WA., and Connie (Doug) Frazier of Missoula, MT; grandchildren, Travis Haas, Colton (Veronica) Hass, Dustin Haas(deceased), Kristie (Jon) Randolph and Juli (Matt) Franklin; great grandchildren, Devin Randolph and Braelyn and Braxton Franklin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Hazel Powe, her brother, George R. Powe, her sisters, Phyllis Glassey and Shirley Cunningham.
Our family would like to thanks, Dr. Robert Smith, Dr. Luke Channer, Dr. Patrick Beatty, the staff at Marcus Daly Hospice Center for the excellent care that was given to her.
Cremation has taken place under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton. No services will be held at this time. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com
The family suggests memorial be made to the Marcus Daly Hospice Center, the Bitterroot Humane Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
