Mark Eugene Lewis

August 19, 1949 — July 16, 2014

Mark Eugene Lewis, 64, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, with his family by his side.
- Mark was born in Omaha, Nebraska on August 19, 1949. He grew up in Sunset Hills, Missouri outside of St. Louis with his five brothers and sisters. After graduating from high school he served his country in the United States Army based in Fort Lee, Virginia.
- On June 15th, 1969, he married the love of his life Marlene Keen Lewis. The two of them had forty-five great years together. After working in various locations around the country, Mark and Marlene chose Hamilton as the perfect place to raise their two children, Kim and Mark.
- There is not enough space in the newspaper to describe how Mark's personality and sense of humor had an impact on those many friends and family members who were close to him. He was a man with a quick wit and full of one liners and a good joke. The things that he did with and for his friends and family have made all of us better people and left countless great memories and experiences.
- Mark loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding horses, and skiing. He also loved his Harley trips with the "Talking Dogs" and last but not least the Griz.
- Mark was a very happy and proud grandfather. He taught his grandkids how to fish. He also taught his granddaughter how to ski and ride horses. During the summer, he spent most weekends at Trout Creek enjoying time with his grandkids. He was an avid and accomplished bass fisherman. He regularly played baseball with his young grandsons and volleyball with his granddaughter and her friends. One of his favorite things was having his grandkids surround him in their sleeping bags on the sleeping porch at the cabin.
- During his seven year battle with cancer, Mark was strong, courageous and determined. He enjoyed every minute with his family and friends. He lived life to the fullest. His resolve, compassion and optimism was inspiring to all who knew and loved him.
- Mark is survived by his mother, Verna; his wife, Marlene; daughter Kim (Jamie) Towe; four grandchildren, Shelby, Evan, Aidan and Carson; sister Vicki (Howard) McBride; brothers Bryan, Gerald (Suzanne) Lewis, and Frank (Gail) Lewis; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Lewis Jr.; sister Jerianne; and father Gerald Lewis.
- It was Mark's request not to have a memorial service. The family will have a private memorial in Trout Creek later in the summer.
- In lieu of flowers to the family, donations can be made to Marcus Daly Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Hamilton, Montana in memory of Mark Lewis.
