DARBY - Mary J. Phillips, 93, of Darby passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Discovery Care Centre. She was born January 23, 1916 in Landusky, MT the daughter of Edgar L. and Frances J. (Wysoki) Williams.
Mary was raised in Landusky and then graduated from Butte High School in 1933. She married Art Phillips on May 26, 1934 in Malta. Together they farmed with Art's family. In 1970, Mary and Art moved to Darby where they continued to ranch.
Mary was a 4-H Leader, she served on the school board for Landusky and was also a Sunday school teacher in Landusky and Darby. Mary was a member of the Darby First Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess and trustee. She was a member of Leona Chapter #31 O.E.S., the VFW auxiliary, and a hospice volunteer.
She was preceded in death by her husband Art in 1989; sons, Jake and Bernie and four brothers.
Surviving include her daughters, Mary Ann (Rick) Scheele of Darby, MT. and Frances Tomlinson of Kirland, WA.; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church in Darby or the Marcus Daly Hospice Endowment Fund, 1200 Westwood Dr., Hamilton, MT 59840.
