Maurice "Morris" Frank Coates

HAMILTON - Maurice Frank Coates, age 87, passed away on September 1st, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Maurice was born on October 23rd, 1936 in Mogollon, New Mexico, where he spent his formative years. He served a mission in Central America. He went on to attend Brigham Young University where he played basketball, and later graduated from Cal Poly as a landscape architect. Throughout his career, he touched many through his acts of service, such as making the river parks accessible for the handicapped so they could fish, and serving as a bishop for several years in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He loved playing baseball and basketball, working and being outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping. He was in the Army Reserve for 2 years.

He is survived by his loving wife Venice Coates, his children Kellie Sparks (Roger), Kimberly Stewart (Shawn), Kari Goligoski (Jason), Craig Coates (Dina), Kristi Coates, Chris Coates (Kimberly), Clint Coates, and Curt Coates (Melissa). His grandchildren Venessa Sanderson, Brandon Sparks, Mckenzie Sowards, Celeste, Zachary & Jazmyn Sparks, Shawn & Steffan Stewart, Brittany Uranich, Shelby, Bailee & Brenden Stewart, Taylor, Hunter & Tanner Goligoski, Remington Coates, Sativa, Szeplyn Coates, Ashley, Faith, Sage, Titan & Annabelle Coates, Cash Coates, Matthew, Hailey & William Coates. His great-grandchildren Kalhan Sparks, Gabe Sanderson, Archer Sparks, Ember, Lilly, Jett & Barrett Sowards, Riley & Palmer Uranich. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Memorial Services will be held for family and friends at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Blodgett Canyon Ward, at 11:00 AM Thursday September 5th at 401 North 8th Street.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.
