Conner – Max Ray Lemons Jr, 74, of Conner passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024 at his home with his loving wife an dogs by his side. Max was born in Wichita, KS on May 7, 1950 to Max Ray Lemons Sr and Vera M. Weer (Anderson).
Due to his father’s work, Max’s family moved often, many times necessitating Max to attend different schools within one school year.
Eventually his parents purchased the Rocky Knob in Conner where he was able to attend Darby Public Schools for the balance of his school years.
Max was driving logging trucks before he actually obtained a license to do so.
Working in the timber industry at a young age, besides driving trucks, he learned how to operate equipment and do mechanical work on heavy equipment and trucks.
This set him up for work as he did throughout his life, as a truck driver, mechanic, and operator. In the oil fields of Oklahoma, shortly after his marriage to Mary, he taught himself how to weld and began his welding career that he finally retired from and returned to his home in the Bitterroot Valley to enjoy motorcycle riding and working with “old iron”.
Max was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary of 49 years; half-sister, Dana Tomkins; and half-brother, David Weer.
A Celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 11 AM at the Darby Clubhouse followed by a pot-luck luncheon sponsored by the Bitterrodders Car Club. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorials be made to a scholarship fund for students going into the trades sponsored by the Bitterrodders Car Club (P.O. 882, Box Hamilton, Mt 59840). Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.
