Michael Jay Smith

HAMILTON - Michael Jay Smith, 53, of Hamilton passed away Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the Marcus Daly Hospice and Palliative Care Center. He was born November 29, 1955 in Glasgow, MT the son of Ruth and James H. Smith.
Mike graduated from Hellgate High School in 1974 and then graduated with honors from Dawson Community College with a degree in Land Survey Technology.
Mike married Susie Smith in June of 1989 in Coeur d' Alene, ID. He began his career as a surveyor, party chief and instrument man for various firms in Montana and the surrounding areas. Mike worked for Washington Construction Company/Morrison Knudsen Corporation as a project engineer and project manager. He worked from 1999 until the present as an estimator for PUMCO, INC.
Mike enjoyed golfing and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Newton Jay and Etta Cummings and Horace and Martha Smith; and his uncle Everett Cummings.
Mike is survived by his wife, Susie Smith of Hamilton; his daughters, Melissa and Arielle BeVan of Missoula and Hamilton; his parents, Ruth Smith of Missoula and James H. Smith and wife Carolyn of Glendale, AZ; his grandchildren, Tristin and Ava both of Hamilton; his aunt Doris Matcsh of Spokane, WA; his brothers, Jeffery Smith and wife Pam of Missoula and Morgan Smith Kingston, WA; his half-brother Derek Smith and half-sister Stephanie Smith both of Glendale, AZ; his nephews, Brian, David and Colter Smith; his niece, Carmen Smith and numerous cousins.
