STEVENSVILLE - Raymond W. Meadows, 96, of Stevensville passed away on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012. He was born Jan. 18, 1916, in Charlson, North Dakota.
During his early years Ray lived on a farm in Western North Dakota. In the late 1920s, his family migrated to Alberta, Canada. One of Ray's fondest memories involved moving back to Western North Dakota in a small three wagon train, including all of the farm livestock. The trip took three months.
Ray served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. Ray and Ruthie Thomas were married in June of 1946 and were later divorced. They eventually settled in the Stevensville area where he worked in a variety of agricultural jobs, at the University of Montana, for the City of Stevensville, and for 10 years as a ditch rider, before retiring.
Ray is survived by his sister, Ruth Sunderland and husband Bob, of Edmonton, Alberta, brother Keith Meadows and wife Lenore of Edmonton, daughter Marki (Meadows) Jacobs, of Victor; son Ken Meadows and wife Cheryl, of Happy Valley, Oregon; two grandchildren, Casey (Meadows) Lyons and husband James, of Vancouver, Washington, Ben Meadows and wife Cassie, of Newberg, Oregon; 4 great grandchildren, Kenzie and Kruz Lyons, Luke and Taryn Meadows. Ray was preceded in death by a brother, Rubert Meadows; and sister, Rose (Meadows) Boots.
