CORVALLIS - Richard "Steve" Holmes, 39, of Corvallis went to be with his only son, Justin on the night of July 21, 2009. A great reunion it must have been. We mourn his loss but know in our hearts he is suffering no longer. Steve was born on February 5, 1970 in the snowbound town of Glasgow, MT the son of Richard and Rita Holmes.
Steve moved home to the Bitterroot that same spring of 1970 and has remained here ever since, except a few short stints in Walla Walla, WA. He graduated from Corvallis High School as a 3rd generation. Steve loved camping and fishing with family and friends, especially his favorite spots up Lost Horse and on the West Fork. He also loved taking his dog, Buck, down to the river for a swim on hot summer days. Steve was a people person that always had a smile for a stranger no matter what the circumstance. Steve had a big smile for everyone that brightened your day when you were down. He was loved by his family and friends and that smile will be sorely missed by us all. Steve had sorrows when he lost his son but tried not to show his ache. There is a time and a reason for us all and God called him home to be with Justin. Steve was a joy to know.
Steve worked in construction most of his life. He was an artist in building beautiful homes and helping his dad create unique antler lamps, chandeliers and artwork, he got to be the best at this.
Steve loved family and could not get enough of being close to them. He enjoyed going to his kid's football, volleyball, soccer and basketball games. He learned to become supporters of both Corvallis and Hamilton. Steve would travel with family to others places but would become grumpy the longer he was away from his home in the Bitterroot Valley.
Steve was preceded in death by his beloved son, Justin Holmes, who waits for him in Heaven, and also his grandparents, Pauline Holmes, Jessie Holmes and Pershing Menager. He is survived by his parents, Rich and Rita Holmes of Corvallis; his brother, James Holmes and wife Ramelle and their children Nicole, Josh and Kaylie all of Corvallis; his grandmother, Donna Hosko and her friend Jerry Rasmussen; his favorite companion, Nancy Hnizdil and her children, Eric, Kelsey and Andrew Brangoccio all of Hamilton and his dog Buck.
