Robert Gunnar Mitchell

MISSOULA - Robert Gunnar Mitchell, 83, left this world on December 11, 2015 to join his beloved wife of 56 years in heaven. Bob was born in Missoula, Mont., on May 9, 1932, to Tyra and Bert Mitchell. He met the love of his life and best friend, Niola Mitchell and they were married on July 19, 1952. Together they lovingly raised two children and cherished times together whether at home in Missoula or their home on Flathead Lake.

After high school, Bob went to work for Don Tomlinson in the construction business.  He later went on to work on his own building many beautiful homes and apartment complexes in Missoula.  He was a perfectionist in everything he did and was very well respected. At the age of 36, he went back to school at the University of Montana studying accounting.

Bob and Ni were very generous people. They volunteered for Meals on Wheels and helped those in need. They loved working on their home and beautiful yard and playing bridge with friends. Bob played bridge at the Senior Center until three months ago. He enjoyed working his daily crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, lunch  and playing Keno at the Silvertip Casino. He was loved and admired by all who knew him. Bob had a strong faith in the Lord and loved his family dearly. We thank our heavenly father for giving us such a wonderful earthly father and grandfather. He will truly be missed.

The family would like to thank the following for their compassionate care of our father: Dr. Lindley, Dr. Bekemeyer, Dr. Sellman, Partners Hospice Care and Marcus Daly Hospice Care.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and best friend, Niola; his brothers, Bert and Fred and sister Marion. He is survived by his two children: Marta (Frank) Carlson of Missoula, Jerry (Donna) Mitchell of Hamilton; three grandchildren, Tara, Danny and Nichole and 3 great grandchildren, Kelsey, Ashley and Amanda and sister, Virginia Cocchiarella, brothers, John Mitchell and Frank Mitchell.  Cremation has taken place under the direction of Daly Leach of Hamilton, MT.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Discovery Alliance Church, 2630 Connery Way, Missoula, MT.
