Robert Dalton Schmidt

Robert Dalton Schmidt, “Bob”, of Hamilton, Montana passed away on December 4, 2016 at the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospice Center.

He was born in Madison, Wisconsin to the late Dalton and Minnie Schmidt on September 26, 1933.  Bob worked on the family farm and graduated in 1951 from Seneca High School.

Bob married Mary Ellen Homuth in 1953.  He worked on farms, did some trucking, some carpenter work, and other odd jobs until starting an excavating business in Platteville, WI in the mid sixties.  They retired in 1986 and moved to the Bitterroot Valley of Montana, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, horseback riding and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In recent years, Bob had acquired some very special friends through coffee and doughnut time at Super One Foods.  Those men and women gave him many laughs and support when needed.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary “Midge” of Hamilton, MT; son, Marty (Peggy) Schmidt of Milwaukee, WI; daughter, Pam (Randy) Melton of Victor, MT; daughter, Deana (Steve) Shook of Hamilton, MT; grandchildren and great grandchildren; and also his brother John (Cheryl) Schmidt of Holmen, WI.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dolores Olmstead.  Lessons learned from Bob: Work hard, Play hard, Go after what you want, and don’t be a whiner.

There will be no services.  Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.
