Robert W. Sullivan

Hamilton - Robert William Sullivan, 86, of Hamilton, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023 of natural causes.  He was born July 7, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Rosemary and William Henry Sullivan.  The eldest of three rambunctious boys, he spent the majority of his youth in Richmond, California.

In 1953, Bob joined the U.S. Army where he worked in Communications. He was stationed in Germany and honorably discharged in 1956.  He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Army of Occupation Medal.  Following his discharge, he settled in Billings, Montana where his mother had moved to be with his two younger brothers.  His father had passed away while he was stationed in Germany.

In December of 1957, he met Helen Kuchera.  After a brief courtship, they married June 21, 1958.  In June of 1959 they welcomed daughter Michelle and in June of 1960, daughter Helen Rose.  Bob passed away just 18 days shy of his and Helen’s 65th wedding anniversary.

A proud Veteran his entire life, he joined the Tigard, Oregon American Legion in 2000.  He was voted Commander of Tigard Post 158 in 2003 and again in 2013. In 2011, he was presented with the Legionnaire of the Year Award in recognition of his outstanding leadership and service.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, William; mother, Rosemary; and brother, Frank.  Survivors include his wife, Helen, of Hamilton; daughters, Michelle (Daniel Thompson), Helen Rose and Dean Howard; brother, Michael Sullivan (Debby); grandchildren, Michael Howard (Keri), Katelyn (Jordan Wiebe); and great grandchildren, Krewz, Hank, Harrisyn and Halle.

Although his family is devastated by his loss, they celebrate his deep love of family and lifelong patriotism.

Bob will be laid to rest at the Western Montana Veterans Cemetery in Missoula on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com
