Roy Gafford Brown Jr. 70, of Hamilton, passed away of cancer, Sunday, March 1, 2015. He was born Sep 22, 1944 in Seattle, Wa., the son of the late Roy G. and Ruth L. Brown. They moved to Ontario, California when he was four years old.
Roy went to Central School and Vina F. Danks Jr. High. He attended Victorville High School for one year before moving back to Baldwin Park, CA, where he graduated from Baldwin Park High in 1963. He went on to attend Mount San Antonio Jr. College.
Roy joined the Navy Reserve in 1965 and married Kathy Elnicky in 1966. In Nov. 1966, he was called to active duty in the Navy. He was on a guided missile destroyer the USS Decatur, during the Vietnam War. Roy was honorably discharged in Nov. 1968.
He went to work for the Southern California Edison Co. for a short time, and then went to The County of Los Angeles, first working as an elevator electrician then on the Electrical Dept, where he worked for 36 years.
In 1980, Roy met Dorothy Gillespie, the couple married Dec. 31, 1983 and resided in Upland, CA. They enjoyed movies, dinner out and golf. They vacationed at a family home in Bullhead City, AZ having great fun with family and friends, going out on weekends and vacations with their Pontoon Boat and Seadoos on Lake Mohave. They spent time waterskiing, Barbequing on the boat, fishing and watching the fireworks from the Laughlin Casino's.
After retirement in 2005, they moved to another place they loved, Hamilton, MT. and started a new life. He spent the last nine years doing what he liked most, golfing with his buds at the Hamilton Golf Club.
Roy was preceded in death by his two sisters, Shyla Manning and Karen Laughman.
Surviving include his wife, Dorothy of Hamilton; daughter, Kortney L. Brown of NY; son, Roy Gafford (Jodi) Brown III of WA and his children Robert and Veronica; step-children, Steve (Rene) Gillespie of NJ; Warren (Michele) Gillespie and their children, Tyler, Justin and Caitlin; Tracy (Lee) Patterson of Whitefish and their children, RJ (Mariah) Patterson with their sons, Colt and Jett, Jessie Patterson.
