Roy Walter Gustafson

MESA, AZ – Roy Walter Gustafson, 96, of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Corvallis, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital.  He was born August 2, 1920 in Corvallis the son of Ivan and Anna Gustafson.

After graduating from high school, Roy attended the University of Montana.  He then enlisted in to the US Navy and served during WWII.  Roy married Rose Marie Johnson in June of 1950.  He worked for over 29 years as a pilot for Eastern Airlines retiring as a Captain.

Roy was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Pilot’s Association (ALPA).  He enjoyed trout fishing and motorhoming.

Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rose Marie Gustafson; 1 brother and 1 sister.  He is survived by 2 daughters, Debra Albright and husband Ward of Corona, CA and Susan Gustafson of Scottsdale, AZ; his son, Steven Gustafson of Mesa, AZ; his granddaughter, Rebecca Albright of Arlington, VA; nephews, Gordon Mickens of Hamilton and Richard Gustafson of Olympia, WA.

Graveside services with full Military Honors will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Corvallis Cemetery.  The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that memorial’s be made in Roy’s name to the Arthritis Foundation, 1355 Peachtree St. NE, Suite 600, Atlanta, GA 30309.
