Sarah S. Littlejohn Schumacher
Sarah Schumacher, of Hamilton, died suddenly Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at Saint Patrick hospital due to complications from pneumonia. She was born June 24, 1949, the daughter of John Littlejohn and the late Ruth Littlejohn.
She had a passion for education and earned degrees in music, education and administration. She taught in Michigan for four years and in Colorado for one year before taking a position as a teacher at Corvallis High School. She later transitioned to principal and in this leadership role helped develop a series of programs aimed at increasing education and independence for youth across the valley. Some of those programs included Classroom without Walls and Expanding Your Horizons. After retiring from the school system in Corvallis, Mrs. Schumacher continued helping students, teachers and administrators as a consultant for the Office of Public Instruction. While she has left us, her impact on the world lives on through the many lives she's touched.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Bob Schumacher, whom she shared 34 years of love, partnership and laughter; her son Aaron and his wife Shannon and their daughter Scarlett of Seattle; and her daughter Rachel and her husband Tony Schlangen and their two children Drew and Ada of Las Vegas. She is also survived by her brother John Littlejohn Jr. and his wife Linda of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and her father John Littlejohn of Fort Myers, Fla.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the Corvallis Gym. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mrs. Schumacher's name to the Salvation Army, Haven House, or drop off a bag of dog food at the animal shelter.
