HAMILTON - Stewart Sterner Cape, 82, of Hamilton, MT (formerly of Carroll County, MD) passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the Marcus Daly Hospice and Palliative Care Center after a year long battle with cancer with his family at his bedside.
He was born April 23, 1928 in Alesia, MD the son of the late John and Sarah Cape. Stewart was the husband of Marian E. Reaver Cape.
He served in the US Navy from 1945 until 1947, stationed on the island of Guam. In his younger years, Stewart was a dairy farmer. He later worked as an owner/operator for Ranger Ryder Trucklines, retiring in 1989.
In 1991, Stewart and Marian moved to the Bitterroot Valley in Montana where he greatly enjoyed the outdoors, observing wildlife and gardening. He was an avid hunter his entire life and was a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club.
Stewart is survived by his wife Marian of Corvallis; his daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Bud Bock of Westminster, MD; his son, Randy S. Cape and girlfriend Jill Kurnik of Evansville, IN; his sister, Dorothy Tracey of Reisterstown, MD; 2 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 7 sisters.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Stewart's name to the Marcus Daly Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 1200 Westwood Dr., Hamilton, MT 59480.
