Sylvia was born October 30, 1927 near Bossburg, WA and entered into rest November 27, 2014 at the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospice Center in Hamilton.
She was the daughter of Frank R. and Myrtle Lockhart Lunceford. She was the youngest of four children her siblings were, Thelma I. Rohlf, Frances L. Johnson and Eugene W. Lunceford. She was christened and later baptized by Pastor Hanson. Her first school was Curry, which she attended for four years before moving to the Bitter Root Valley in 1936. She graduated from the eighth grade at the Grantsdale School in 1941 and from Hamilton High School in May of 1945. She attended the Modern Beauty School in Missoula in 1946. After graduation she worked as a beautician until her marriage to Robert L. Stewart in 1947. She joined the Missoula Rebeckaha Lodge and eventually was a Noble Grand. Her marriage was blessed with two children, Michael in 1950 and Kathleen in 1953. She was divorced from Robert in 1968. She returned to beauty work and was a member of the State Cosmetology Board for two years. In 1974, she opened Sylvia's Beauty Salon in Hamilton, which she owned and operated for 32 years before retiring. She was a member of Faith Lutheran church and worked actively for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings and son Michael. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen (Jim) Owings and grand children Andrea (Adam) Barnhart and Chad (Kiersten) Owings and three great grand children, Noah, Ben and Abby Barnhart. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Lesly Ann Rohlf Cody, Diane Lunceford Witcher, Donald (Sandy) Lunceford, David (Sandy) Johnson and Stephen Johnson, Susan (Bob) Stewart Stage.
No services are planned at this time a celebration of life will be held in the spring with the time and date to be announced.
