Troy Erhardt of Hamilton passed away due to an accident while recreating in Idaho.

Troy John Erhardt was born July 18, 1982 in Livingston, Montana, the son of Martin R. and Doris A. (Hoffman) Erhardt. He attended Park High School in Livingston, earning his diploma in 2000. He lived and worked various jobs in Big Sky and Bozeman before moving to Hamilton, in 2009.

Troy spent ten years working at the US Post Office in Hamilton alongside his brother Curtis. He formed lasting friendships with his co-workers and customers and was a beloved member of the community, known for his kind-hearted nature, sense of humor, and free-spirited personality.

Troy loved Montana and the outdoors, his adventurous spirit led him to spend much of his time hiking, backpacking, fishing, canoeing, snowboarding, and skiing. He found solace and joy in nature. Troy approached every new experience with an open mind and a sense of wonder. His enthusiasm for exploration was matched only by his kindness, he was always there to help when someone needed a hand.

Family held a special place in Troy’s heart. He dedicated the past five years caring for his father Martin; he shared countless evenings and camping trips with his brother Curtis and his family before their move to Maine; he kept his brother Jason company while out on the road; and he enjoyed many adventures with his sister Sandy who shared his love of hiking, outdoor music concerts, and hot springs. His selflessness and devotion were evident in his actions, he was deeply loved by his family.

Troy also had a special bond with his two beloved dogs, Rosco and Stella. They were more than just pets to him; they were his cherished companions who brought him joy and unconditional love. They were always ready and excited for the next outdoor adventure with him.

Troy will be remembered for his kindness, fun-loving nature, and the positive impact he had on those around him. His presence will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of family and friends.

Troy is survived by his father, Martin of Hamilton; brothers, Jason of Billings, and Curtis (Val) of Holden, Maine; and his sister, Sandy (Scott) of Bozeman.

Troy was a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews, Derek and Dylan Coody, Isabella and Gabriel Vicens, and Maddlyn, Quinten and Troy Erhardt. He holds a special place in their hearts.

Troy is also survived by his grandmother, Anna (Doll) Erhardt of Bismarck, ND and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Troy was preceded in death by his mother, Doris, whose memory he carried with him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Daly-Leach Memorial Chapel in Hamilton, followed by a reception. Please join us in celebrating the life of Troy and sharing cherished memories of a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to fund a memorial bench in Troy’s name in downtown Hamilton, a memorial fund has been set up on the funeral homes website where Troy’s obituary is posted.
