Troy "Bodie" Hamlin
"Bodie" Hamlin of Darby, Montana passed away from complications of congestive heart failure at his daughter's home in Reno, NV on November 29, 2010 at the age of 83.
Bodie was born in Jayton, Texas on March 11, 1927 to father Lee Hamlin and mother Dessie (Crisp) Hamlin. He was one of seven sons.
Bodie was an Army veteran who served in Japan at the end of WWII. After leaving the military, he spent the much of the next 50 years in the Camptonville, California area working at Sierra Mountain Mills. He also lived in Idaho and Montana where he spent the last ten years of his life.
After retiring, Bodie learned wood carving and became very successful at carving unique and interesting faces in pine knots he collected in local forests. He sold the carvings at craft shows and special events and made friends from all around the country.
In his spare time, Bodie loved to hunt, fish, trap, and play pool. He spent many years raising hounds and running bear and mountain lion with his friends Walt Frazier and Don Page. In his younger years he played fast pitch softball in Grass Valley, California and was very proud that he was inducted into the local Nevada County Sports Hall of Fame.
Bodie is survived by Gen, his wife of 40 years; his beloved kitty, Blackie; one brother, Jake; three children: Cathy (John); Mike (Joanne); and Sharon. Three step-children: Carleen (Keith); Crystal (David); and Linda (Julian). Five grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, and he'll be missed very much by all who knew him.
