Victor William Zimmerman, 91, passed away Monday evening, May 25, 2009 at the Marcus HAMILTON - Victor William Zimmerman, 91, passed away Monday evening, May 25, 2009 at the Marcus Daly Hospital, in Hamilton, MT, with his wife Alberta (Bertie) and family members at his side.
Vic was born March 26, 1918 at the family homestead in Odessa, North Dakota, near New Leipzig. Vic was the 3rd of 8 children born to Christ and Julia Ganthner Zimmerman. On Feb. 24th 1941 he married Alberta Longhurst in Idaho Falls, Idaho. After their marriage they lived in North Dakota for about 7 years. In 1949 they moved to Salmon, Idaho where they farmed and had a dairy. While living in Salmon Vic also worked as a carpenter.
In 1959 they moved to Hamilton, Montana and have lived there ever since, all the while working as a contractor, raising sheep, calves and keeping bees. Vic proudly built 98 homes during his career as a carpenter.
Vic loved playing cards with friends and family and since he and Bertie were both from big families there were many of them to enjoy.
Vic and Bertie had 5 children, Melba Kerns (deceased), Virgie (Jim) Stoneback of Elgin, ND, Margie (Norm) Jackson of Hamilton, Montana, Karry and (Lezlee) Zimmerman also of Hamilton and Shirley Zimmerman who died as an infant.
He is survived by his widow, Bertie, of Hamilton, daughters Virgie and Margie and his son Karry, a brother Julius of Elgin, ND, and a sister Adeline Monroe of Ohio. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren all of whom he loved and took great joy in.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Emil, Reinhold, Oscar, and Waldemar; a sister Anna; daughters Melba and Shirley, and a granddaughter.
