Virgil Olin Dilsaver, 93 of Hamilton passed away Friday, March 1st at his home in Hamilton.
Virgil was born in a farm house near Athol, Kansas on October 28, 1919, the son of John C. and Stella E. Dilsaver. He grew up on the farm during the severe dust storms, drought and depression. He graduated from Athol High School in 1937. He then attended Kansas State University for 4 years, studying electrical engineering. During those 4 years he took the R.O.T.C. course and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Army in May 1941 and called to active duty in June 1941. He spent 5 years in the U.S. Army with 2 A½ years in the South Pacific during World War II. He was in the Philippine Islands when the war ended. During the time in the South Pacific he was made Captain in charge of Battery B of the 496th AAA Gun Battalion. About the same time that the war ended he was hospitalized with a severe case of yellow jaundice and had to be flown back to the U.S. where he was hospitalized for a few months.
He went to work in the electric department of Southwestern Portland Cement Co. in Victorville, California in April 1946. He worked there for 36 years, the last 12 years as supervisor of the electrical and instrument department.
On June 19, 1943, he married the love of his life, Ella Frances "Fran" Campbell in Las Vegas. They moved from Apple Valley California to Hamilton, Montana in April 1982. During their marrieage they were blessed with two children, a daughter, Mary Kay Carlson of California and a son, John W. Dilsaver of Ohio. He was a member of the board of trustees for 13 years for Victor Valley High School and College. He also taught hunter safety training for 24 years. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Bagdad Shrine Temple. Virgil loved sports, especially golf, baseball and football. On their 53rd wedding anniversary he was proud of his golf "Hole-in-One" at the Hamilton Golf Course.
He was preceded in death his parents, wife, two sisters, a brother and one grandson.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband, son and his wife, 5 grandsons, a granddaughter, 7 great granddaughters, 4 great-grandsons and a host of friends.
There will be no public services.
