Walter Andrew Shafer, 70, of Darby died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at his residence of natural causes.
He was born June 29, 1938 in Boulder, Colorado to Vernie C. and Helen A. Evans Shafer. He graduated form Cimmaron High School in 1956.
On September 11, 1956 he entered the U.S. Marine Corps, serving with the 3rd Marine Division as a PFC in an infantry unit.
He worked in saw mills for 10 years in and around Darby. Andy spent 25 years working at Trapper Creek Job Corps and fighting forest fires. He retired in 1999.
He was a member of the Buffler Runners - Black Powder Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and black powder shoots.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Surviving include his wife, Norma of Darby; sons, John of Ft. Wayne, IN., and Patrick of Hamilton, MT.; daughter, Andrea Shafer of Sun Burst, MT.; sister, Margaret Sallee of Chula Vista, CA.; sisters-in-law, Jan Shafer, Paula Horton and Laura Joslin; 11 Grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
