PVT Wayne M. Evans
After almost 80 years, the remains of a WWII hero are finally coming home. PVT Wayne M. Evans was a member of Battery G. 59th Coast Artillery Regiment, when the Japanese forces invaded the Philippine Islands in December 1941. Intense fighting continued until the surrender of the Bataan peninsula on April 9, 1942, and of Corregidor Island on May 6, 1942.
Private Wayne M. Evans, 21 was captured and died as a prisoner of war during World War II.
A military graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Army.
