Wayne Stuart Moen, 89 of Corvallis passed away Friday, December 20th at his home in Corvallis.
Wayne was born March 5, 1924 in Bellingham, Washington to the late Carl and Julia Larson Moen. He was a member of the American Central Lutheran Church in Bellingham. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII and was in France and Germany. After the war Wayne attended the University of Washington from 1947 to 1952, receiving his degree in Geology.
Wayne worked for the State of Washington as a Geologist from 1952 to 1982 and wrote numerous books about mining and geology. When he retired, he moved to Montana. Wayne had a full life pursuing his various interests and loved his home in the Bitterroot Valley. He was an avid photographer and also wrote short stories about his life. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, gardening and nature and often went hiking and motorbiking in search of old mining camps. Wayne could be found every morning enjoying a cup of coffee with his friends at a local cafAC..
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marilyn.
He is survived by his nieces, Julie Marchiori and Jane Wardrop, both of Washington.
A reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 29th at the Daly-Leach Community Room in Hamilton, MT. Private urn placement will take place at a later date.
