Obituary

William Wayne Winsett, known to all as Bill, passed on November 20, 2025, at the age of 79 in Corvallis, Montana. He was born on May 18, 1946, in Los Angeles,he was raised in California and started his family there before making Montana his home for the last 47 years.

Bill was adopted at 18 months old and grew up an only child, which made the idea of a large family deeply meaningful to him. His greatest joy and proudest accomplishment in life was his family. Together with his wife of 50 years, whom he lovingly referred to as the wife of his youth, Jacci, they raised a beautiful and full household. They also fostered over 70 children over the years and were blessed to adopt several of them, creating the big, loving family Bill had always dreamed of.

Bill served his country with great pride as a member of the United States Army for 3 years during the Vietnam War. A deeply patriotic man, he was honored with the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. His service was a point of lifelong pride, and he held great respect for his fellow veterans.

A man of unwavering faith, Bill was a devoted follower of the Lord and approached every decision through the lens of Scripture and his relationship with God. His spiritual life was central to who he was. He was involved in jail ministry, discipleship, foster care, and helping provide a safe house for women and children while their spouses were incarcerated or if they needed somewhere to stay and learn about parenting. He also faithfully served for many years on the board of Bitterroot Christian Ministries (BRCM).

Bill was known for his intelligence, his methodical and organized nature - even in his unique brand of chaos-his unique sense of humor, and his love for words. He cherished a good dictionary and often expressed himself with depth and thoughtfulness. His humor brought joy to everyone around him. Nothing delighted him more than “getting your goat”, and he would become giddy like a little boy whenever he managed it.

A skilled and meticulous woodworker, Bill created many beautiful pieces over the years, often partnered with Jacci, whose painting completed their creations. They made a remarkable team. He also loved tending his yard, working in his garden, fishing, and supporting his children and grandchildren in every sport and activity. From coaching to cheering to traveling, he was always there.

Bill faced many adversities throughout his life, but he always sought out the bright side. He was an Owl and Tigger in an Eeyore world, a description that captures his spirit and the way he moved through life.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife Jacci; his 16 children Robin, Lisa, Noelle, Danie, John, Suzie, Jennifer, Chrissie, Amy, Katie, Emily, Billy, Chad, Chris, Dakota, and Blaine; and 36 grandchildren, each of whom he adored and had a unique place in his heart.

He is preceded in death by his mother-in-law Kimberly; his granddaughter Mcala; and his grandsons Ethan and Hunter.

Bill will be remembered as compassionate, wise, knowledgeable, gracious, funny, deeply faithful, and a true gentleman. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the family he poured his heart into. He will be profoundly missed!

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2025 at Bill's home, 1567 Winsett Way, Corvallis.
