Winnie Faye Jessop-Hansen-Thompson passed away peacefully January 10, 2026 surrounded by loved ones in Pinesdale, Montana. She was 90.
She was the first of thirteen children born to Joseph Lyman Jessop and Beth Allred Jessop March 24, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She loved her Father and Mother and each member of her large family dearly.
She attended Salt Lake City area schools, including Murray High. She especially enjoyed literature, math, science and music. She played and taught the violin and piano.
She married Wayne DeMar Handy (1952) (deceased) and they welcomed five children. She later married Dr. Gerald Peterson (1965) (deceased) welcoming two more children.
Having lived in the Bitterroot Valley for a total of 52 years, she's been very involved with the
community. She sang with the Bitterroot Grange, served as Pinesdale City Clerk and Voting Clerk, taught in Pines Academy and served as a Librarian for many years. Proficient in accounting, genealogy, family history, crocheting and sewing- she made hundreds of quilts and doilies for family and friends. She was a willing servant to all. She traveled to Israel and Mexico with family and cabin trips with her dear lady friends.
Most important to her was her deep devotion to The Father and her Savior. She always bore a firm testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In her later years she married Joseph B. Thompson (1983) and was a devoted companion.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, sisters, son (Demar Lyman Handy), grandson (TJ Charles O'Brien), and great-grandson (Sterling John Weidow).
She is survived by her children; EvaLyn (Claude) Weidow, M. Eileen (Ted-deceased) Weidow, Sarah L. Norman, Judith (Mel) Sullivan, Jonathan D (Kelly) Hansen and Bonnie Jean (Lynn) Covington, 3 brothers, 6 sisters, 42 Grandchildren, 82 Great-Grandchildren, and 13 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM January 23, 2026, Pines Chapel 220 E. 18th St. Pinesdale, Montana
Visitation Prior 9:00-10:30 AM
Interment 11:00 AM Monday, January 26, 2026, Memorial Holladay Cemetery 4900 S. Memory Lane Holladay, Utah
