Alva "Dean" DeMott
Alva "Dean" DeMott, 81, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 9:06 p.m., at the Southwest Montana Veterans' Home in Butte, Montana, where he received care while battling Lewy Body Dementia.
Dean was born October 26, 1941 at the old Thorton Hospital in Missoula, Montana to Alva and Sylvia Mae (Moore) DeMott.
Dean attended school in Missoula and Hamilton before graduating from Darby High School in May, 1960.
After high school, Dean joined the U.S. Navy serving from 1960 to 1990. His 30-year career took him all over the world with his assigned duties. He was very proud of his service and spoke of it all the time. Following his service, Dean returned to the Bitterroot Valley and he worked various jobs from his Corvallis home.
Dean married his true love, Bonita Jean Bowden Dye, on October 21, 2000 at St. Francis Church in Hamilton, Montana.
Dean is survived by his wife Bonnie of Corvallis, Montana; stepdaughter, Lisa Anne and husband Jason Miller of American Fork, Utah; step-sons, David Dye and wife Christine of Mona, Utah; John Dye and wife Jenny of Provo, Utah; Harrison Dye and wife Hayley of Lehi, Utah, and Tony Dye of Corvallis, Montana; twenty-three grandchildren; eight great -grandchildren (and two on the way!); sister, Mary DeMott of Rexford, Montana; brother, David DeMott of Missoula, Montana; niece, Tammi and husband Shawn Barber of Ronan, Montana; nephews, Ryan DeMott of Missoula, Montana and Mike DeMott and wife Anna of Goldendale, Washington; sister-in-law, Harriet Tallmadge of Anaconda, Montana; brother-in-law, Bill Bowden and wife Mary of Butte, Montana; nephews, Dan Petersen and wife Lidia of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mike Petersen of Butte, Montana.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Sylvia (Moore) DeMott.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Catholic Church in Hamilton, Montana on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. MDT. Military honors will be presented by the US Navy and the Corvallis American Legion.
Interment will be at the Western Montana State Veterans' Cemetery, 1911 Tower Street, Missoula, Montana 59804 on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 11:00 am MST.
