DARBY - Charlene House (nee Wright) was loved by all who met her. She was one of the toughest people you could ever hope to come across. Charlene grew up in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. She was brought into this world by her hero, Lewis Wright, and her mother, Virginia Marks.
While a young lady in Colorado, she loved to ride horses and the rodeo. She was Miss Sky Hi Stampede 1954 and a highlight of that era was when she was able to court Casey Tibbs for some time. Charlene moved to Montana and met Paul House. They built a house up the West Fork, in about 1972, and has lived up here on her own since Paul's passing. All that know her up here, know her as the Mountain Woman. Her house has always been surrounded by wildlife that she has taken care of for nearly 50 years.
She volunteered with the Suicide Hotline and S.A.F.E. for 30 years, and never missed an opportunity to show love to anyone. She will be dearly missed forever. She has left behind two daughters, (Sherri Mabe) (Tanya Hurley) and one son, Doug House. Her grandchildren are Doug, Alex, Grace, (Mabe), Joshua, Ashley (Hurley) Shane, Shante (House) She has multiple great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Lewis Wright, Virginia Marks, Paul House. "There is no death, only the changing of world"-Duwamish
