Doug Peterson, 72, of Corvallis passed away Monday, April 19, 2021 after a 10-year battle with congestive heart failure. He was born Aug 26, 1948 in Great Falls, Montana, the son of the late Arlie and LaVerne Peterson.
Doug grew up in Great Falls, Montana. Graduated from Northern Montana State University in 1972 with an industrial arts broadfield major and math minor. After teaching for one year, he moved to Billings, Montana, where he started working for a lumber company. By the time he was thirty he was self-employed as a carpenter. Moving to the Bitterroot Valley in 1979 to be closer to family as he and his wife, Evelyn, raised their family, he became known for his cabinet making and spraying urethane foam insulation and maintaining the Corvallis cemetery. He was an out of the box thinker, could fix nearly everything, was very creative and never stopped learning in his fields of interest [we considered him a borderline genius]. His number one passion was his family and his God. His hobbies included camping, making bio diesel, building electric cars, and tinkering with anything that had a motor. He loved learning and never stopped passing on his knowledge to his family and anyone else who would stop long enough to listen and learn.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents Arlie and LaVerne Peterson and infant daughter Karen. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of 50 years; sons Aram of Salem OR, Clayton (Lisa) of Albany OR, Kevin (JJ) of Corvallis MT, Ivan of Corvallis MT and Seth of Redmond OR; and daughters Jessi (Kash) of Kirkland WA, Ingrid (Kyle) of Corvallis MT and Sharon of Salem OR; six grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers, many cousins, nieces, and nephews and nine grand-dogs who knew exactly what a big heart he had.
There will be a graveside memorial gathering on Saturday July 24th at 11am at the Corvallis cemetery with a BBQ following at the Peterson residence at 1pm. Family and friends are welcome to join us at both.
