HAMILTON - Helen Evans, age 93, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 21st, 2009. She was born in White Sulphur Springs, Montana, on June 13, 1916, to William and Vera (Dabler) Glasser.
Helen, the eldest of six children, was born and raised on the Glasser homestead near White Sulphur Springs, MT. She learned many life skills from her early ranch days and from the great depression. All these skills were put to use when as a widow and single mother in Napa, California, Helen had to provide for her and her daughter. Times were hard, but she always made a good life and loving home for them. Helen retired from Mare Island Navel Shipyard in the accounting department. She was a great seamstress and loved to knit. Helen created fashionable clothing for herself, her daughter, grand-daughters, and even their Barbie dolls.
Helen returned to Montana in 2000 and lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Hamilton. She enjoyed living in the country again, watching the seasons pass, the garden grow, and taking care of her cat, Snowball. She had such a great love for animals. One favorite story is of her and her sister Wilma feeding the baby porcupines.
Helen was a wonderful role model for her family. She represented strong will, determination and generosity. Daughter, granddaughters, cousins, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews all benefited from Helen's life.
Helen is survived by daughter Sharleen and son-in-law Thomas Suellau, sister Gladys McGee in Phoenix, brother William Glasser in White Sulphur Springs, brother George and wife Marylou Glasser in Hamilton, 5 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by husband Horace Evans, sister Wilma Weddel, and brother Delbert Glasser.
